How to Use Keywords on Your Website
Posted by admin on September 5, 2011
Using keywords on your website is essential to attracting your target audience. Most users of the internet discover websites through the user of search engines. For instance, if someone were wanting to learn about the causes of diabetes the might enter the term “causes of diabetes” into Google’s search engine. Google then provides a listing of websites that have information relevant to those terms, and, more specifically, contain that exact phrase. If you were running a website about diabetes, it would therefore behoove you to have content that uses that phrase as it would increase your ranking in Google’s search results. This method is called “search engine optimization”.
Here are some tips when optimizing pages on your website for search engines:
- Try to have your keywords appear within the first 200 words of a webpage as search engines give more credence to them.
- Use your keywords within headings. Doing this emphasizes their importance to the content of the text.
- Do not overuse keywords. Search engines like Google have recently implemented technology that sniffs out “filler” websites that have little actual value but are rather built to have high search engine rankings and attract views. If Google suspects this of your website, it will be designated “spam” and may be completely banned from its search results.
